What clients look for on an accountant website

A visitor comparing firms wants to know if you do their kind of work, what it costs and who they would deal with.

  • Your services, one page each

Self assessment, bookkeeping, payroll, VAT, company accounts and tax advice each answer a different search. A separate page for each lets a visitor find theirs.

  • What it costs

Most accountant sites hide fees. A “from” price, or how a price is worked out, helps a visitor decide to call.

  • Who you are

A short bio with your photo, your qualifications and the professional body you belong to, with the details to check.

  • How to get started

An enquiry form with a choice of service, so you know what the visitor needs before you reply.

Rules your accountant website should follow

Every limited company must show three details on its website, so this covers many accountancy firms.

Rules your accountant website should follow
The ruleWhat it means for your site
A company’s website must show the part of the UK where it is registered, its registered number and its registered office address.Put all three in the footer of every page. I add them once you send me the details.

This is the Companies, Limited Liability Partnerships and Business (Names and Trading Disclosures) Regulations 2015, regulation 25. Your professional body or supervisor may set more rules. Check with them.

Features for an accountancy website

Features are built to your quote. Portals and document tools stay with the ones you already use, linked and scoped in your quote.

  • Service pages and a fee guide

Each service in plain words, with what you need from the client and what happens next.

  • An enquiry form that sorts the work

The visitor picks a service and says whether they are a sole trader, a company or a landlord.

  • A link to your client portal

A login link to the portal or document tool you already use. The portal itself stays with that tool and is scoped in your quote.

  • A tax and deadlines page

Short notes on the dates your clients ask about, written by you, with a link to the official page for each.

  • Names and logos, with proof

ICAEW, ACCA, AAT or other bodies appear only once you show me current proof.

Custom accountant website or Wix and Squarespace?

Wix and Squarespace suit an accountant who wants to build and edit the site alone. A custom site suits one who wants it built for them.

Accountancy firms in the UK

Most are small, so a one-page or five-page site is often enough.

If you pay once, hosting with me is £19.99 a month, or you can host it yourself. On a monthly plan, hosting is included.

A small site gives each service its own page, plus a page about you and a contact page. Your site usually goes live within 10 working days of you approving the free preview and sending your words and photos.

Not included: domain registration and renewal, email mailboxes, paid services from other companies, and extra pages and features, which are quoted first.

What an accountant should prepare

A list in a message is enough.

  • Your services

What you offer and what you do not, in your own words.

  • Your fees

A “from” price for each service, or how you work a price out.

  • Your company details

Registered number, registered office and the part of the UK where you are registered, if you are a company.

  • Your qualifications

Professional bodies and the registration details to show, with proof.

  • Your portal or software

The client portal, document or booking tool you use, so I can link to it.

Questions accountants ask

How much does accountant website design cost?

Monthly plans start from £29.99 a month with nothing upfront. To pay once, one page is £199 and up to 5 pages is £399. Up to 8 pages is from £699. All prices include VAT. Your site usually goes live within 10 working days of you approving the free preview and sending your words and photos.

What should an accountant website include?

A page for each service, your fees or how you price, who you are and how to start. Add your company details in the footer if you are a company, and the professional bodies you belong to, with proof.

Can clients upload documents or see a portal?

The site can link to the portal or upload tool you already use. The portal itself stays with that tool. How it is linked or embedded is scoped in your quote.

Do I have to show my registered number on the website?

For a company, the 2015 regulations say the site must show where in the UK you are registered. It must also show your registered number and registered office address. I put them in the footer. Check any other rules with your professional body.

Do you design websites for bookkeepers and tax advisers too?

Yes. The same layout works for bookkeepers and tax advisers, with the services and the enquiry choices changed to match.

Can I put ICAEW, ACCA or AAT logos on my site?

Yes, once you show me current proof of membership. I do not add a logo I have not seen proof for.

Get a free quote and see your preview first

Tell me what you offer, who your clients are and how they usually get in touch. The quote is free and lists the pages, features and total price. You see your preview before you pay anything. Don’t like the preview? You owe nothing. I reply within one working day.
