I'm a freelance web designer based in Sheffield, building sites for small businesses across the UK from £199 for one page, £399 for up to 5 pages or £699 for up to 8 pages. You message me, not a sales team, and the person who writes to you is the person who designs, codes and checks your site. Hiring one freelancer carries risks as well as benefits, so this page sets out both and what I do about each one.
One-page site £199, small site £399, business site from £699. All prices include VAT.
The reasons are practical. None of them is that a freelancer is automatically better.
Questions about wording, a photo or a button go straight to the developer. Nothing passes through a salesperson first.
The quote names the pages, the features, the revision rounds and the total, so you can set it against any other quote line by line.
You explain what you do, who your customers are and where you work one time, to the person who then writes and builds the pages.
After launch you still write to the same person. Small changes to your existing text, photos or layout are free for 4 weeks.
A freelancer is one person. Ask how they cover that.
These are the worries I would have in your position.
You get your website files and account access at launch, and your domain and hosting sit in accounts you own. If you and I stopped working together, the site would stay yours and could move to another developer.
I tell you in the first reply if I cannot start soon, and the quote gives a delivery guide. If I host the site, an alert reaches me when it goes down.
New pages and features are quoted before I build them. The price you agree stays the price for the work listed.
True of me too. I design, build and test sites. I do not offer photography, video or paid advertising management, and I say so before you pay.
Put these to me, and to anyone else you are thinking of hiring.
Live sites you can open on your phone. Mine are GHZ Accountants and Redpen Jobs, and they are the only two I list.
A real person, a working email address and a reply time. Mine is within one working day.
Pages, features, revisions, VAT and the total, before any work starts.
Ask who holds the domain, the code and the hosting account on the day the project ends.
Phones, forms, links, speed and security basics, checked by someone before launch.
A written price or plan for after launch, not a vague promise.
I'm based in Sheffield. You do not need to be.
Everything happens online. You start with the contact form, a WhatsApp message or a callback request, and the brief, the design choice, the review and the launch follow by message and shared links.
You choose one of three homepage directions, try the working site on your own phone through a review link and leave notes there. You never need to travel, and I do not travel to you.
I have no source for an average freelancer rate in the UK, so I will not quote one. These are my own fixed prices.

All prices include VAT. Your fixed quote confirms the final price before any work starts.
Hosting with me is optional, from £19.99 a month. With your own hosting there is no monthly fee to me.
Allow 10 working days for a one-page or small site and 14 working days for a business site, counted from when the brief and your content are ready.
Not included: domain registration and renewal, email mailboxes, paid services from other companies, and extra pages and features, which are quoted first.
When one developer suits you, and the jobs where a team is the better choice.

About meI cannot give a market rate because I have no source for one. My own prices are £199 for one page, £399 for up to 5 pages and £699 for up to 8 pages, as fixed quotes. All prices include VAT.
Neither is better in general. A freelancer suits a small site where you want to deal with the builder directly. A team suits a large project with many people involved.
This is the main risk of hiring one person. Your domain, hosting and website files stay in accounts you own, and I hand over the files and access at launch, so another developer could take the site on.
Yes. Use the contact form, message me on WhatsApp or ask for a callback. The quote is fixed before you agree to anything.
I check in a few days after launch, and small changes are free for 4 weeks. After that, hosting and monthly updates are optional, from £19.99 a month, and you can cancel anytime.
No. Businesses across the UK work with me remotely. I'm based in Sheffield, and the whole project runs online.
Tell me about your business and what the website needs to do. The quote lists the pages, features and total price before you agree to anything. I reply within one working day.
