Guide 07 · Before the brief

How much does a website cost in the UK

With me, a one-page website costs £199, a site of up to 5 pages £399 and a business site of up to 8 pages starts at £699. Hosting is optional, from £19.99 a month. All prices include VAT.

What the build costs

These are my prices, not a market average. I do not have a source for one, so I will not quote one. Each build is a one-off price with a fixed quote before work starts.

Every priced build includes 2 revision rounds. Delivery is counted from when the brief is agreed and your content is ready.

What changes the price

The number of pages is the main factor. After that, it is whether the site needs something beyond pages and a contact form, such as bookings or a link to a tool you already use. Those are scoped for your business and agreed in the quote.

Two extras can sit on top of a build. A logo starts at £49, and extra copywriting starts at £79 for up to 500 words.

You can keep costs down by sending your services, contact details, logo and photos early. A slow brief usually means a slow build.

What you pay after launch

Hosting with me is optional. If you prefer your own, I hand over the website files. Small changes to your existing text, photos or layout are free for 4 weeks after launch, with either choice.

A small update is a short text change or a swapped photo on an existing page. Domain registration, email mailboxes and paid services from other companies are separate.

How to compare quotes

Two quotes with the same headline price can include very different things. Ask each designer the same questions.

  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
  • How many pages and revision rounds are included?
  • Who owns the domain, the files and the hosting account at the end?
  • What do hosting and changes cost after launch?
  • Who writes the words, and who checks the site on a phone before it goes live?
