Guide 02 · Before the build

Get your words and photos ready.

You supply the business facts. I help turn them into clear wording for the pages in your agreed build.

  1. Your facts and photos

  2. Words we work on

  3. Your approval

What writing help means

You can start with rough notes, an existing brochure or the wording from your current site. I write the pages with you: organise the information, draft headings and page text, and make the next step clear.

We agree which pages need wording before I quote. You check the facts, prices, services and any claims before approving the copy. I cannot supply missing qualifications, customer reviews or business policies.

Both packages include 2 revision rounds. Each round is one consolidated list of changes within the agreed scope. New pages, extra features or a new direction are quoted separately.

Writing help for the pages in your website package stays included. Standalone or extra copywriting outside that brief starts at £79 per page, for up to 500 words and 2 revision rounds. Page design and development are quoted separately.

Collect the details customers ask for

  • Your business name, contact details, opening hours and areas you serve.
  • Each service: who it is for, what is included, what is excluded and how the customer gets started.
  • Prices you want to publish, or an explanation of how you quote.
  • Genuine qualifications, memberships and work examples that you can substantiate.
  • Customer reviews you have permission to publish, with their original source.
  • The questions you answer repeatedly by message, email or phone.

Leave unknown details marked for discussion. Do not guess a legal disclosure, qualification or service promise just to fill the page.

Prepare the content page by page

Prepare the content page by page
Page or sectionUseful material to send
HomeWhat you do, who you help, where you work and the main next step.
ServiceWhat the customer gets, the process, relevant prices, common questions and a suitable example.
Work or galleryYour own photos, a short explanation of each job and permission to show the work.
AboutA real introduction, relevant background and an approved photo if you want one.
ContactThe information you need to assess an enquiry and how you want to receive it.

Send original files you can use

Send the original photo files rather than screenshots or compressed copies from messages, where possible. Include a short note explaining what each photo shows and where it could be used.

Use photos, logos and other material you own or have permission to publish. Tell me about any conditions attached to supplied images, including credits. If people or customer premises appear, check that you can show them.

Photography, a new logo and paid image licences are not automatically included. If you need them, we agree the source, permissions and cost first. Example designs and illustrations are labelled as examples.

I can add a short text description where a meaningful image needs one, so the information is available to people using a screen reader.

Send one clear round of feedback

Check the draft page against your real services. Group feedback by page and quote the line you want changed. “We only cover Sheffield” is more useful than “Make it more local.”

Choose one person to collect the feedback if several people are reviewing. Confirm the final wording and photos before launch. Delivery depends on the agreed brief, ready content and your replies.
