Your quick checklist
How can someone narrow a job list and understand a role before applying?
Use this to keep your place while reading. Ticking a box does not send or change anything.
Words explained
- AI
- Artificial intelligence. This site lists work that helps develop it.
- Filter
- A choice that narrows a list to matching results.
- Directory
- A collection of listings people can browse or search.
Before you start
A visitor needs to find work that fits their experience, check where they can do it and understand the requirements before applying. The site gives those decisions separate steps, from choosing a profession to reading an individual role.
Open Redpen Jobs or explore the website views in my work gallery.
Starting with the work someone already does
The homepage asks visitors what they work as and links to jobs for that type of work. It also has a generalist option for someone without a specialist profession. Someone who wants to browse everything can open the full job list.
Each profession has its own page. An accountant can open the accountancy and finance roles and read those jobs together. Each listing gives the job title, the company or service advertising the work, the stated pay and a short description.
That arrangement gives the visitor useful information before they open a role. It also gives them a specific page they can return to or share with someone in the same profession.
Narrowing the job list
The job search page lets visitors type a search and choose a profession or country. These choices are filters: they narrow the list to jobs matching what someone selects. Other filters cover skills, the service advertising the work and how the job pays, such as by the hour or per task.
Remote work means work done away from the employer's office, but a job can still require someone to live in a particular country. The country choice sits alongside the profession choice so visitors can check both before reading the job descriptions.
If nothing matches, the page says so and offers a way to clear the filters. Clearing them removes the choices that narrowed the search, so the visitor can return to the wider list and try again.

Reading a role before applying
An individual job page brings together the listed pay, location, hours, experience and description. It names the service advertising the work and links to that service's website to apply.
The page keeps the pay in the form used by the original listing. A rate per task is different from a rate per hour. Visitors need to know which applies before comparing jobs or spending time on an application.
The site explains that Redpen Jobs is independent and that it can earn referral fees, meaning payments when someone follows a tracked link and meets the advertiser's conditions. Applications take place on the service advertising the job. Redpen Jobs supplies the list and information visitors read beforehand.
What I checked
I checked the profession and country choices, searches with no matches and the option to remove search choices, on phones and computers. These checks followed the steps someone takes to find a job and try again when nothing matches.
How I can help with a directory website
A directory is a collection of listings people can browse or search, such as jobs, businesses or services. If you need one, I can help decide what visitors should be able to search for, which choices help them narrow the list and what each individual page needs to explain.
I can design and build the agreed search, filters and listing pages as a project priced for your requirements. We would decide what information each listing needs and what visitors can do when nothing matches. I also need to know who supplies the information and how it will be kept up to date before giving you a price.
The quote lists the pages, features, checks and any connections to other services included in the price. We also agree who will update the listings. If another service will send information to your site automatically, that connection needs agreeing and pricing too. Send an example of your information and what you want a visitor to do, and I can help work out what the site needs.
